Important information for website owners with .ru domains and sites hosted on Russian hosting providers.
On July 23, 2026, Beget was added to the EU sanctions list. The Latvian data center is being shut down, international domains (.com, .net, etc.) are at risk of suspension, and Let’s Encrypt (the US-based SSL certificate provider) may stop issuing certificates to Beget’s clients. Without an SSL certificate, browsers will mark your site as “Not Secure.”
What should you do?
International domains (.com/.net/.org) – it’s best to transfer them to another registrar (outside Russia).
For sites targeting an international audience, choose a hosting provider in a neutral jurisdiction.
For sites on .ru domains – keep them with Russian providers (e.g., Yandex.Cloud, Reg.ru), but before September 1, 2026, you must verify your identity through Gosuslugi (the Russian public services portal), otherwise your domain will be suspended.
Where to move and why?
Turkey – a solid choice:
Great latency both to Russia (60–100 ms) and Europe.
Prices from $0.31/month, with control panels like cPanel or Plesk (familiar interface).
Russian bank cards often work for payment.
Kazakhstan – good for Russian-speaking audiences: low latency, ISPmanager/cPanel panels, from ~$5/month. However, payment may be problematic (some banks block transfers).
UAE – maximum neutrality, excellent connectivity to Europe and Asia, cPanel/DirectAdmin panels, from $10/month. Cryptocurrency is accepted.
Armenia and Serbia – also not under sanctions, have providers with cPanel, low prices, payment by cards or crypto.
Domain registration for .com/.net – it’s better to use international registrars like Namecheap or Porkbun.
SSL – be prepared to purchase paid certificates from other issuers or use the SSL provided by your new host.
